Network Management

A network is a series of devices and pieces of software communicating with each other as part of an overall IT system.

Some areas which network engineers look at:

  • Design a network on a local-area-network (LAN) and wide-area-network (WAN)
  • Considering security issues to protect against unauthorised access
  • Have an up-to-date knowledge of network software, and hardware (e.g. wireless)
  • Trouble-shooting - fixing the network if it should go down
