Information Technology looks at how technology impacts on, and can benefit an organisation.

It aims to ensure that through the transfer of information (between the different parts of a business), the business runs effectively and efficiently.

Areas it covers include:

  • Applications and databases - that run different functions of a business (e.g. sales, production)
  • Networks - getting the different pieces of software and computer hardware to talk to each other
  • Hardware
  • Security
  • e-Business
  • Reporting

 

What sorts of people do IT? Generally, IT people are good a maths, science and general analysis. They are logical, quick thinking and good at problem solving.

Careers include working in the above functions, or Director of: IT or Management Information Systems.
